Gripper-Kwawu Overview

The Gripper-Kwawu is a hybrid prosthetic that combines the Gripper Thumb Terminal Device with the Kwawu Socket 2.0 arm, remixed to offer a functional and customizable solution for below-elbow amputees. This model is available in two versions, Short-Forearm and Long-Forearm, to accommodate different limb lengths and user needs, ranging from simplified, rapid-use builds to more modular, full-length configurations.

This model is the Short-Forearm version.

The Gripper-Kwawu (Short-Forearm) is a simplified, lightweight prosthetic arm designed for individuals with a significantly shortened residual forearm. This model combines the Kwawu Socket Arm 2.0 and Gripper Thumb into a compact, functional solution that emphasizes ease of assembly and user comfort. It eliminates the need for stringing mechanisms by using an elastic-powered thumb and includes thermoformable cuffs and soft padding for a custom fit. Ideal for low-resource environments or rapid deployment, this version is particularly well-suited for recipients who may have difficulty with more complex devices.

Compared to the Long-Forearm version, the Short-Forearm model does not include elbow functionality or modular lock systems, prioritizing simplicity, quick assembly, and accessibility over adjustability. It is recommended for users with very short trans-radial amputations who benefit from a lightweight and intuitive design.
