Description

These files contain 3-D-printable Right and Left external laterality markers for use during MRI examinations.

Background

Conventional MRI relies on technologist setup and accuracy of DICOM metadata to indicate patient side. The lack of a visual confirmation can result in wrong-side labeling errors. We designed low-profile silicone markers, doped with 0.2 % gadobenate dimeglumine (MultiHance), that appear conspicuously bright on all routine localizer sequences without introducing artifacts or additional SAR penalty. The hard PLA shell makes these markers easily cleanable and reusable. Each marker costs less than a dollar to produce.

Contents

smallLateralityMold_L.stl - Mold shell for left laterality marker (approx. 40 mm x 40 mm x 10 mm)

smallLateralityMold_R.st - Mold shell for right laterality marker (approx. 40 mm x 40 mm x 10 mm)

smallLateralityTop_L.stl - Top for left laterality marker mold (approx. 40 mm x 40 mm x 10 mm)

smallLateralityTol_R.stl - Top for right laterality marker mold (approx. 40 mm x 40 mm x 10 mm)

Printing & assembly

  1. Print in PLA or PET-G.
  2. Prepare two-part RTV silicone; dope with 0.2 % v/v gadobenate dimeglumine (MultiHance®).
  3. Degas the silicone in a vacuum chamber
  4. Fill the mold with silicone, attach the tops, and cure 24 h.
  5. Wipe off excess silicone
