Description
The Shrimp Spermatophore Adhesion Apparatus is used for testing the adhesion or stickiness of spermatophores. As seen in the figure, the glass plate configuration is slid into the holder and the force gauge is hooked onto the other side. Another glass slide is taped or attached to a permanent base and the spermatophore is placed onto that slide. Adhesion apparatus is then pushed into the spermatophore and plate and then the max force to pull the two plates apart is recorded while pulling the force gauge.
Developed by the Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center (AGGRC) at the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, designed by Cameron Bonds and colleagues. This work was funded in part by USDA and Louisiana Sea Grant UROP.
