Description
A Yale Assistive Innovation and Design (YAID)-original design, this product allows individuals with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy to eat food independently. The product is controlled by a button system via Bluetooth, and allows the user to finely control vertical arm motion. With food in hand, the user can use the button system to rotate the gears and move their forearm to their mouth. After eating the food, the user can return their forearm back to the base.
Additional materials needed for assembly: Velcro straps to attach "Upper arm" and "Forearm" to the body; gears, servomotors, Arduino, and battery to power the device; code [available upon request, krupa.subramaniam@yale.edu].
Product created as collaboration between: Henry Berger, Jordan Davis, Eytan Israel, Jenny Mao, Krupakar Subramaniam, Yale Center for Engineering Innovation and Design, and Yale Assistive Innovation and Design.
