Description

Histology glass slide adapter for Casio CW disc title printers. This adapter supports and holds three standard histology glass slides (1"x3") for thermal transfer print labelling in Casio CW L300 or CWK85 disc title printers (designed to print on CD-R or DVD-R discs).

Please review photos, a thick aluminum foil is glued on the backside of the adapter and paper binder clips are used to secure and hold the 3 histology glass slides in place for printing. The Casio CW printers may be used stand alone with use of its QWERTY keyboard or use of WIN software for printing via USB cable. We have used these Casio CW printers w/ ‘CasioCW_GSlide_adapter1’ in a low volume Research laboratory for various histology stains (e.g. H&E, tol. blue, PPD for myelinated nerves). This 3D printed adapter has similar dimensions of a compact disc and positions the slides for printing on its labeled surface for direct thermal transfer printing enabling 1-5 lines of text, images including barcode fonts. Please note, that the recommended slides are those that have a coated surface and designed for thermal ink transfer (e.g. Epredia Slidemate and others), other standard labelled slides with textured label surfaces (e.g.  Superfrost) print too light in density and inconsistent. We have printed hundreds of slides with this adapter using the Casio CW printers, without jams, or ink ribbon tears, and have done solvent resistance tests. The printed ink on the sides are isopropanol, methanol, ethanol and xylene solvent resistant. There are many automated Histology/Pathology slide labelling printers that have been around for decades, this small, easy, inexpensive, and flexible printing project is intended for use in non-Clinical Research & academic laboratory environments. We make no guarantees or claims for use and this project is intended to be a repurposing equipment application using an obsolete optical disc printer that has been around for nearly two decades.
