Description

This model of the influenza viron consists of the envelope, capsid+ RNA  as separate pieces. Please note that the capsid + RNA are a single piece. The fully assembled model can be disassembled and used to teach about the structure of the influenza virus. Models for a deconstructable HIV and poliovirus are also available on NIH 3D print exchange, and can be paired with this model to highlight the diversity of viral shapes, and genome structure.  This model was commissioned by Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History for the exhibit Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World and is based on models 3DPX-007837 and 3DPX-008052 from NIH. The complete deconstructible Influenza model includes 3 pieces which are listed below:

Influenza_capsid_RNA

Influenza_half_A

Influenza_half_B

The file ‘Influenza_capsid_RNA’ is an artists’ rendering, and not based on data.
