Description
This model of poliovirus consists of the capsid and RNA as separate pieces. The fully assembled model can be disassembled and used to teach about the structure of the poliovirus. Models for a deconstructable HIV and Influenza are also available on NIH 3D print exchange, and can be paired with this model to highlight the diversity of viral shapes, and genome structure. This model was commissioned by Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History for the exhibit Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World and is based on models 3DPX-001519 and 3DPX-003589 from NIH. The complete deconstructible poliovirus model includes 3 pieces which are listed below:

The file ‘Polio_RNA’ is an artists’ rendering, and is not based on data.
