Description

This model of HIV consists of the envelope, capsid and RNA  as separate pieces. The fully assembled model can be disassembled and used to teach about the structure of the HIV virus. Models for a deconstructable Influenza and Polio are also available on NIH 3D print exchange, and can be paired with this model to highlight the diversity of viral shapes, and genome structure.  This model was commissioned by Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History for the exhibit Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World and is based on models 3DPX-0078  and 3DPX-0080 models from NIH 3D print exchange. The complete deconstructible HIV model includes 6 pieces which are listed below:

HIV Capsid (A)

HIV Capsid (B)

HIV Envelope (A)

HIV Envelope (B)

HIV RNA (A)

HIV RNA (B)

The files ‘HIV RNA (A)’ and ‘HIV RNA (B) are an artists’ rendering, and are not based on data.
