Description
This full sized custom designed shield assembly was made for the Welch Allyn Spot Vision Screener (Model VS100S-B) to help provide a greater degree of protection between the screener and the individual to be screened. The lightweight design is modular allowing flexibility in how the end user would like to utilize the shield (half upper shield only, half lower shield only, or full shield coverage). Additionally, the shield frame can be assembled and disassembled without any tools for ease of transportation. Finally, this shield design does not interfere with the lightpath between the image sensor and the subject to be screened, thereby preventing potential imaging artifacts / irregularities.
The shields themselves are modeled off of the hole punch dimensions of the US version of the 3DVerkstan shield, allowing groups producing PPE to also make this design without much modification. The base of the frame of the shield pressfits onto the imaging body of the Welch Allyn Spot Vision screener. Small gaps have been left to facilitate removal, which can be easily closed with pieces of foam if desired. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first shield design created for the Spot Vision Screener.
Important notes: The design itself assembles to be large enough to cover the average person's torso when the Spot Vision Screener is held at an appropriate height (see photo), and requires 6 transparency sheets in total. For best results, the layer resolution of the prints should not exceed 0.25 mm. We recommend printing with 20% infill or to use multiple perimeters to help strengthen the parts as well as print with supports on. On a LulzBot TAZ6, the print time for all components with standard settings at 0.25 mm was approximately 12 hours. However, printing using perimeters only reduces print time down to approximately 4 hours. Other than removing the print supports for some parts, no post-processing is required.
