Description

This is a 3D model for a nasopharyngeal testing swab prototype to be printed on a 3D printer.

The design is based on our research of existing swabs and other 3D printed swabs already designed. However, we took the approach of a simple design able to be replicated on buget material extrusion 3D printers which will allow mass production and be cost-effective using flexible material to not hurt during tests.

Currently a major challenge is in mass producing nasopharyngeal swabs (and full testing kits) so we can really scale testing to the numbers required to reopen economies while keeping the growth of cases in check. Our design will help fill that need.

Design can only be manufactured in facilities that meet specific requirements.

You can read the FDA Technical Considerations for Additive Manufactured Medical Devices here.

Design needs to be printed in a non-toxic flexible material (we are currently studying the design using flexible TPU).
