Description
RKid – a Stellenbosch, South Africa based industrial design company – responded with urgency to a Facebook request for assistance from Dr. Ettienne Myburg (MD – Panorama Mediclinic) to come up with a design for a powered, air-purifying respirator (PAPR) to be used as personal protection during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our open source design is available at no cost to the “maker community” – individuals and communities with a focus on making something tangible in tech – as a DIY-friendly solution to be deployed in hospitals and care units to protect vulnerable medical personnel. It can be made from materials and other stuff that are readily available during a lock-down scenario. The mask and pump can be made locally and in record time.
This is an opportunity for us in the design and maker communities to contribute in our own way to save lives, in this case, our medical workers in the front line whom we admire and salute!
