Description
During this COVID-19 pandemic most elective surgeries have been cancelled, which leaves many surgical drapes unused. This available material can be repurposed to fabricate makeshift surgical hoods to provide more protection around the head and neck. This surgical hood also leverages an existing face shield design that has been reviewed for clinical use (https://3dprint.nih.gov/discover/3dpx-013406) to provide the structure to secure on the head and the clear plastic shield. The overall design is simple and lends itself to be tailored for different wearer heights and face shield sizes.
Features:
- Fitted design to minimize obstruction to the wearer's movements
- No sewing is required for ease of fabrication and to avoid seams
- Longer section in the front and back to keep the hood secured underneath a medical gown
- Total fabrication time:
- Cut/fold/tape surgical drape: ~10-15 min
- Assemble 3D printed face shield: ~10 min
- Assemble surgical hood with face shield and seal edges: ~5-10 min
See attached document for fabrication and assembly instructions.
