Description
Supply gaps exist for a variety of PPEs, such as face shields. 3D printed models are one way to fill in this gap as various supply chains come online.
Face shields have several requirements, such as:
- Splatter prevention from the front and above (i.e to limit exposure to surgical and N95 masks)
- Re-usuable (i.e. can be washed and/or disinfected)
- Stable (i.e. stay in place for long periods of time)
- Easy to use (i.e. can be quickly put on or removed and are flexible)
In addition, 3D printed models have some additional requirements, such as:
- Quick print time
- Low plastic usage
- Robust
This model addresses this issue. It includes the model for a 3D printed face-shield visor. It allows the use of transparent plastic as the shield, and an elastic band to hold the visor in place.
In addition to the printed visor, two additional items are needed:
- A transparent plastic face shield. This can be implemented using transparency sheets, where the 3 holes are punctured with the US 3-hole spacing. Other plastic materials can be used too as long as they are flexible.
- An elastic band / hair band, to be used to hold it in place.
