Description

This mask is an easy-to print FDM respirator that has passed fit testing at a major metro hospital in Boston. The filters are based on research (1, 2, 3) that shows triple layered cotton is as effective a surgical mask in preventing infection. The filters used in the design are easily sourceable cotton round makeup remover pads - however, these filters can be easily swapped out with even N95 melt-blown fabric should it be available. The masks are reusable and can be sterilized using IPA and possibly an autoclave (in testing).
The next step for this design is to test it to NIOSH TEB-APR-STP-0003, NIOSH TEB-APR-STP-0007, NIOSH TEB-APR-STP-0001 or ASTM F2101, MIL-M-3654C REU and ASTM F2299 standards. I am in touch with an agency that is willing to donate their machines to test both the filters and the mask.
