Description

There are a lot of awesome face shields being created to help our COVID-19 medical heroes and essential workers. I noticed that most require multiple steps and tools to assemble. I wanted to design a visor with the following benefits over what is currently able to be 3D printed:

  • Minimal assembly time and no additional tools for assembly
  • Adjustable shield height to cover top of head
  • Ability to cover side of face, extending just short of ears
  • Comfortable during heavy use
  • Minimal geometry which is easy to sterilize

This shield uses its own tension to keep the transparent sheet in place; so all you need to do is slide the sheet in the center opening and insert the shim. It can be adjusted vertically if you want more protection in either direction. It works with sheets up to any height and they can be inserted in either orientation. Sheets can wrap around all the way around the face, ending just before the ear. Rubber/elastic bands are the only other thing you need, unless you want to trim the corners.

There are two versions of this shield. A standard height as well as a lightweight height for rapid printing if ease of printing and efficiency is priority. Both have the same functionality.
