Description
Overview: A minimalist 3D printed face shield frame to accept 8-1/2" x 11" office transparency sheets. This minimalist designed frame is optimized for rapid production and deployment while maintaining durability and strength of the frame and face shield. The design weights only 7 grams, has full upward visibilty due to the side support system, and can be secured using two strap styles. This design is intended to provide face protection to frontline healthcare workers in the Covid-19 pandemic from fluid splatter from the front.

Frame design without head bandcompletes at 7 grams. Forehead support yields a 9 gram frame.

An additional version is attached for added forehead support on the same frame. Forehead support version yields a 9 gram product.
Design Requirements:
- Protect the user's face from splatter from the front
- Achieved using transparency film secured to the frame
- Minimize material and complexity
- 7-8 gram product weight
- Robust shield fastener design to maximize resilience on impact, and
- Curve allows shield rigidity, while fasteners minimize tearing of film
- Allow multiple head strap styles to be utilized
- 2 ways to secure a head strap

Bill Of Material
- 3D printed frame
- 8-1/2” x 11” transparency film (Can get from office supply store or use any mostly clear film that has some structure to it (Not saran wrap!))
- Head strap (choose one)
- Choice 1: 14” length of ¾” width or greater woven elastic band
- Choice 2: 28” – 32” length (depending on head size) ¼” woven elastic band.
- Choice 3: Design can be improvised if need be
Assembly Instructions (See PDF for instructions with pictures)
- Print hole punch template on 8-1/2” x 11” office paper.
- Ensure you use “ACTUAL SIZE” when printing
- Use a standard single hole puncher (1/4”) and use the template to help align the holes to cut into the transparency film. Cut one at a time to start, and after test fit works, continue cutting more.
- Starting from either the left or right side, push the pins into the holes on the transparency. Continue till you have secured all 4 holes onto the fasteners.
- Select your headstrap of choice and secure the strap to either the loops or the elbow
Your face shield should be complete!
