Description

This concept converts the standard ambu bag device into emergency ventilator in case of equipment shortage relief. The key concept for the design is to utilize a classic cam-based mechanism to translate rotation (motor) to push/release actions needed for the ambu bag.

The design is easy to make using mostly off-the-shelf products or easy-to-make parts. The bars for the main frame and stands can be made from either 3D printing or simply standard T-slotted bars, plastic bars or wooden bars. Most of the plate-shaped parts can be either 3D printed or simply laser cut using plastic or wood plates. The only fastener type used currently is 10-32 bolts/screws, although the size could be changed easily. Also, the fastener type for the motor (AC/DC) is not included in the model, since it will need to be specified with the actual motor.

For air volume control (per squeeze cycle): cam shape/dimension; cam-bag distance; # of cams

For air flow rate control: adjusting the DC/AC motor RPM through change of voltage or addition of gear sets. The use of gear sets also allows for lower-torque high-rpm motors to be used.

Pressure gauges, pressure regulator and air valve that come with a standard ambu bag are now included in the concept model.
