Description
I designed and printed this acetylene generator for Kevin Nevroski, a Ph.D student in Biological Sciences, who wanted a completely new design instead of the current one which is not very good to use.
The function of this equipment in Kevin`s words: "Acetylene generators allow users to make acetylene while in the field. We use acetylene in assays to measure denitrification and nitrogen fixation rates. Many people carry compressed canisters of this gas into the field but it is highly combustible and this can be dangerous. To avoid this risk we make acetylene gas in the field by combining calcium carbide and water. The acetylene generator acts as a container for the reaction to occur and a way for users to capture and use the acetylene once it is formed."
