This winder was created because of the need for a simple way to wind expensive (~$100 and up) accelerometers and microphone cables that if kinked can cause failure and false reading. This is a way to wind them that takes out the factor of people not knowing how the properly wind a cord and could easily ruin one. If done right this winder will put them in nice loops and will allow a twist tie or zip tie to be placed on them to hold it nicely wound. This part uses a bearring with an outer diameter of 1.375 inches, inner diameter 0.625 inches, and width of 0.433 inches. The total cost of this with PLA that cost $20 a kilogram was about ($12 for bearing+ $6.86 343grams of PLA) $18.86.
The part has been printed to hold BNC cable ends and wind the cord around in a direction that the user cranks. It is made to be held onto a table using a clamp of any sort. A printed G-clamp on thingiverse will work well. The OpenSCAD code can be updated to fit a more petite cord on like is common on uniaxial accels.
I could not find a winder/crank for sale for wires like the ones specified so there is not a price savings associated with this. The closest thing related is for extension cords or headphones that do not require the care these wires do.
