Description

These are teaching models of various protein secondary structures in space fill and stick representations (PDB: 3vjo). They include a space fill α-helix and an accompanying space fill water molecule to illustrate the lack of space along the helix’s axis, as well as a straight stick α-helix, kinked α-helix, and anti-parallel β-sheet, all depicted in stick representation. The models are designed to accompany a teaching module illustrating protein secondary structure and function. The printable models are already uploaded to Shapeways.com in the MacroMolecules shop under the name “Helix and Water (Space-fill)”, “Alpha Helix_Thick”, “Alpha Helix_Pro-Gly”, and “Beta-sheet_Thick”. The models have been printed successfully using these parameters on Shapeways’ binder jetting printer in the Coated Full Color Sandstone material.
