Description

I was asked to design and print a protective backing for an LCD display used in chemistry projects at my college. The display is transported frequently between labs and classrooms, and needed a back that could serve two purposes: 1) protect the fragile components on the back, and 2) enable the display to be propped up on the table on its own for easier reading of the information during a lab. The LCD display itself is recycled from a cash register, so combined with the new protective back, this likely saved the school $10-15 dollars based on comparable products available online (where very few have a protective casing). (example of similar product)

Bill of Materials:

Ruler, RepRap Jellybox 3D Printer, Makerbot filament (clear/glow in the dark, 1.75 mm), LCD display, tools for 3D printer (tweezers, wire cutters, etc).

The back simply pops into the back and stands up on the two "feet" on the back. It will be necessary to print with support material and I would recommend printing with a raft. This design could be modified to fit other types of LCD displays, but will likely need adjustments to help it stay snapped on more successfully. Alternatively, one could use a small piece of tape to keep the back perfectly secured to the display, as it's not a piece that needs to be taken on and off repeatedly.
