DtM-3.1 Face Shield Using Ender 3 Pro - Build Tips

Description

Had a few small problems printing DtM-v3.1 with Ender 3 Pro. Make sure to level bed carefully checking all corners and center of bed. Thinckness of one-sheet of paper/post-it note should just touch. Used default settings wiht the Ceality slicer with \Fast\ settings and PLA. This created a raft which was critical tfor good adhesion to the removable magnetic build surface.  Also when printing started, it took a few inches for the raft too stick but this did not affect build. Print takes about 6hrs 40mins.After BuildRemoving the raft was a little tricky. I recommend letting it cool down for 10 or 15 minutes so the raft breaks away more cleanly. Be careful removing near the ends of the visor around the elasic achor points. I twisted a little too hard and broke one of the headband anchors. If necessary use a pair of side cutting pliers and carefully trim by hand if necessary.Transparent FaceplateSeveral different materials have been suggested from report covers, transparencies etc. with thickness from 2mil to 10 mils for the faceplate. I used 5 mil thermal laminating pounches (Scotch Brand Thermal Laminating Pouches, Clear, 5 Mil (TP5854-100) These make a nice rigid shield. I would hesitate to use anything less than 5 mils as it may be too floppy for adequate protection Scotch also makes a thinner one that is 3 mil. As an added bonus, you can reinforce the top of the faceplate with paper. I printed the name of the receiving organization. Note that most laminators will handle 3 to 5 mil thermoplastic. Take care not to jam the laminator with too much material.Headband CushionI found vinyl foam weatherseal (3/8\ wide x 3/16 thick) with an adhesive backing to be a perfect material (see Frost King Grey V443/4) though you can substitue with waht is available.Fasteners for HeadbandFasteners were a bit tricky. I had obtained 3/8\ elastic band from Ebay which was very good quality but found it is very difficult to sew loops. The fallbback was just to tie loops as required from a section about 15 to 20 inches. Alternatives are elastic bandsConsumablesSince the design is made to be reusable, you should consider supply multiples of replacement faceshields, headband liner material and elastic closures. I supplied for each frame I created I supplied replacement materials of enough for 4 changes of faceplate, headband cushion and elastic material.You will of course have to decide what is best under your circumstances.Equipment UsedPrinter: Ender 3 ProLaminator: Scotch 901Punch: Standard metal 3-hole punch
